Wall Preparation for Painting in Kuils River
By Kuils River Painters - Expert advice from the professionals
Preparation is the foundation of any lasting paint job — and in Kuils River's demanding climate, thorough preparation is even more critical than in milder areas. Every step skipped in preparation shortens the life of the finished paintwork.
Step 1: Clean Thoroughly
Kuils River exterior walls accumulate dust, grime and biological growth — particularly on shaded walls during wet winters. A high-pressure wash before any exterior repaint is non-negotiable. Allow at least 48 hours drying time before painting. Interior walls need a wash with sugar soap to remove grease and surface contamination.
Step 2: Remove Loose Paint and Repair Cracks
Any peeling, flaking or poorly-bonded paint must be removed before repainting. Thermal cycling from hot Kuils River summers causes significant cracking in plaster — fill all cracks with flexible acrylic filler. Wider cracks should be cut out and filled in layers. Structural or recurring cracks should be assessed before painting rather than simply filled and painted over.
Step 3: Prime Every Time
Priming is not optional on Kuils River exterior repaints. The correct primer seals porous substrate, improves adhesion and significantly extends topcoat life. Apply alkali-resistant primer on repaired plaster areas, bonding primer on problematic substrates. See our full painting guide for product and timing advice.
Kuils River Painters never skips preparation. Every job is properly cleaned, repaired and primed before topcoat.
